Welcome to the final week of February 2024. As the magic of the full Moon in Virgo begins to settle and integrate, we welcome a rare event: Mercury cazimi and Saturn cazimi on the same date.
The Sun holds a central and sacred role in astrology, just as it does in our solar system. It represents our consciousness and our spirit. It relates to our spirit and our sense of self. When a planet in its orbit draws closer to the Sun, or is in conjunction with the Sun, it is known as a cazimi, named for the Arabic term that means “in the heart of the Sun.” A cazimi represents a new beginning, an influx of new life force and awareness, a point of renewal.
The meeting of these two planets in such proximity to the Sun and in the dreamy water sign of Pisces brings an emphasis on our intuition. And it brings an invitation to create the next chapter of our life.
Mercury Cazimi
We have been swimming in the sacred waters of Pisces ever since the Sun entered it on February 18, 2024. Soon after, Mercury followed the Sun into the same sign.
Mercury, in astrology, is known as our cosmic messenger. A planet that never strays too far from the Sun, it moves among places and planets that have differing relationships with our consciousness and unconsciousness. It collects and shares information, insights, and wisdom from each cosmic body and constellation. It then disperses wisdom, threading together seemingly disparate aspects of the cosmos and ourselves. It’s not unlike neurotransmitters in the body helping individual cells communicate with one another to enable the whole to function more efficiently.
The two celestial bodies come together in partnership, exchanging information and expanding light, as Mercury cazimi takes place on February 28, 2024. When Mercury comes into the heart of the Sun, the planet gathers new consciousness, wisdom, and vitality. It can then deliver them to our psyches with the potential to realign our beliefs, mental patterning, narratives, and perceptions of ourselves and the world around us.
Saturn Cazimi
Known for wisdom related to commitment, responsibility, boundaries, and focus, Saturn entered the mystical sign of Pisces in March 2023. Since then, it has been supporting us to bring our most mystical dreams into our lived experience. Almost a year into its two-year long stay in Pisces, the planet continues to guide us. It invites us to build the structures that support our dreams, the persistence that brings probability to our visions, and the boundaries that sharpen our emotional health and creativity.
On February 28, 2024, Saturn, too, comes into the heart of the Sun and invites consciousness and commitment. Saturn and the Sun together in Pisces asks us what it would look like to devote ourselves to our dreams and imaginations.
