“Flightless Chook, American Mouth”
In 2002, Sam Beam’s first album as Iron & Wine was launched on Sub Pop Records. He’d given them a bunch of demos, and somewhat than have him re-record these songs, they launched the demos themselves. Since then, he’s put out 5 extra full-length albums and been nominated for a number of Grammys.
For this episode, Sam seemed again on the making of his tune “Flightless Chook, American Mouth,” from his 2007 album The Shepherd’s Dog. A 12 months after that album got here out, the tune was used prominently in a scene within the film Twilight, and it’s been some of the standard Iron & Wine songs ever since. I talked to Sam at Blue Rock Artist Ranch and Studio in Wimberley, Texas, in entrance of a small viewers. You’ll hear the unique demo he recorded, and the way that reworked into the ultimate model of the tune.
